Preceding Events

Eliza Samudio was a 25-year-old Brazilian model and television personality. In 2009, she had a brief relationship with then-Flamengo footballer Bruno Fernandes de Souza. During their affair, she became pregnant with his child.

However, Bruno was hesitant to accept the child and his paternity was disputed. Eliza demanded a paternity and child support test, which Bruno resisted. This refusal caused a public dispute between the two, with Eliza seeking legal action.

The Kidnapping and Murder

On June 4, 2010, Eliza disappeared. According to police reports, she was lured to a villa in Rio de Janeiro by Bruno's accomplices. Upon her arrival, she was kidnapped and taken to a nearby hotel.

Eliza was imprisoned in the hotel for two weeks, where she was subjected to torture and abuse. During this time, Bruno is believed to have strangled her and dismembered her body. Her remains were buried on a farm owned by Bruno in the city of Esmeraldas.

Investigation and Trial

Eliza's disappearance sparked a massive police investigation. Suspicion quickly fell on Bruno and his associates, leading to their arrests. During the subsequent trial, Bruno was convicted of Eliza's murder and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Several other individuals were implicated in the case and were also sentenced for their roles. The case gained widespread media attention and shocked the Brazilian public.

Eliza's Son

Eliza's son, Bruninho, was born in 2010. After her death, he was raised by his paternal grandmother. In 2012, Bruninho was granted a monthly pension as compensation for his mother's death.

Bruno has since expressed regret for his actions and apologized to Eliza's family. However, he has been denied parole several times and remains imprisoned.

Legacy

Eliza Samudio's murder remains a poignant reminder of the dangers faced by women in violent relationships. The case also highlighted the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
